happy halloween all! i love halloween when i was a little girl. i.e. free candy of course. and also the air smelled really good outside every single year. but it was always freezing cold.

anyways. i am thinking of being lame and staying in. or going out and being...ohmgee..how original a fairy!!! i like doing face makeup so i might go all out with the face.

@ jollygoodfun.com

if only i can find shiny pink makeup like that.

anyways, i sometimes get random magazines from my mother who steals them from work. i dont know why because she never opens them usually. but i tend to do that too. one of them is the cookiemag which i love because it always has projects in them you can do with your kids (for me, my non-kids.....myself). one of them was a terrarium which i spotted on sugarcityjournal too. seems simple to do yet looks so good! you can throw a couple of toys in there to make a fantasy land. sorta like an orb of another world.

and in the midst of halloween, i give you:

i always drank random stuff during halloween. orange, green, purple...i think that stuff would make me sick today. and what would halloween be without some pumpkins. yum.

pumpkin bundt cake @ cookiemag

have a good time everyone!

--- edit ---

oo i also saw these on cookie mag! wax hands!! such a cool idea! rather than painting your hand and making your mom the i love you card. why not make her a hand....that won't freak her out.

lights. camera. acshunnn!

so im thinking of updating this blog daily. lets see if that works out for me.
a close friend of mine who is a communication designer knows how obsessed i am with interior design...and weddings so she occasionally directs me to stuff she thinks i'll like. well direct she did!

take a look at these x)

@ kickimoller.com

Imagine sitting in a pretty white room with one of those hanging above you. Or even, rather than those paper lanterns that everyone has at their wedding, use these!

and while you're at it. sit under one of those with this dress. i absolutely love vintage dresses. it could always be a third dress at a wedding puwahahha oh the vanity.

recently i went soul searching in my mothers 70s closet and i found 1. awesome clothes, 2. that she was pretty tiny when she was my age, 3. eeeeee can i fit into them?

this weekend im going to head home, grab a couple and pose for some self shots. will post!

woes of decorating

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

decorating has begun! i have "settled in" my apartment...i.e. i have clothes pretty much everywhere (i am organizing it so don't worry....its just that the rate of growth in clothing > rate of growth in my cabinetry....stagnant).

room pictures and its advancement into what it is now will be posted soon! once my sister sends me the photos x(

so to compromise with my roomie, we started off by going through each room and deciding what was needed. so far we are planning on...:

1) go to bed bath and beyond and purchase futon covers for existing sofas we have
2) consider a room divider
3) wall decor for dining area/living area/hallway (front and bathroom)
4) bathroom decor (there is some interesting shower curtain there that her mother bought...sorta looks too modern...and i am a boy type thing but i am not a boy so i dont like it that much.)
5) side tables and lighting

my room is still going under construction. i have pretty much all my stuff here. walls are still bare and the front of the room is crying out for a long mirror and some coat hooks. but we need to be adventurous and drill some holes in this place. but its an apartment...for rental....so there are some fears there.

here are some items that i have purchased!

masha d'yans canvas - courtesy of urban outfitters - price? 50$ my price? 24$
(it was from the back and a little crazy-ed up...but i fixed it...go me!)
this will go somewhere. no clue but i loved it.

---PRETEND PIC---
owl prints for the hallway! (pic to be displayed)

JA? Letters courtesy of urban outfitters . price? 14 bucks each
these will be going up at the door entrance!!! =)

lampshade . courtesy of urban outfitters . price? 10 bucks

so if you can't tell by now. we went to urban outfitters today to get a couple of things

i have also gotten a............CAKE PLATE! very exciting as i LOVE cakes. I got a cake plate where there is ribbon weaving through the buttom. very chic.

--pretend theres a vase pic here--

my mac is down so its not as easy to get pictures up =(
i got a pretty vase (green with blue middle) from anthropologie

anyways....thats pretty much what we've been doing this past week. settling, going to work and making the money that funds all this and then going out to stores to decorate.

areas of exploration..next? Ikea, Williamsburg Brooklyn, BBB (again xT), TJ Maxx which has wonderful stuff sometimes, and random stores in Brooklyn

zomgee!

as i get older im thinking the people around me are getting dumber...but then i go and find crazy stuff like this:

source: youtube
go check out forbes.com for 10 young people something something something prodigies

and i think. my mom must be disappointed that she got such a weird child. i played the violin since i was in...1st grade? and i think i suck. i used to stop and pretend it was a ukelele. and my teachers house was full of newspapers and cats. can't get any better there. and she had some weird outgrowth of skin. [shout out to john]

and i found this:

http://tavi-thenewgirlintown.blogspot.com/

who i think is pretty damn cool and i would hang out with her if she were 10 years older. for now its illegal. i think.

im amazed these days at what technology can bring out in people. if i had access to a digital camera and what not when i was 12, i think i would go nutz. now im just trying to remember all the weird things that i did when i was young...like how i knew all the types of clouds there were, i collected all books on all animals especially marine animals. i wrote to animals that had something wrong with them or unique aobut them (koko who is amazing btw, the blind seal, the orphaned otter, etc).

yea how does this have anything to do with decorating, style, fashion, weddings, pretty things? oh it does my friends, it does. just look at that blog.

projects galore

so i have been conducting small projects here and there these past few weeks. because i am bored. i have nothing much to do till this coming weekend (more move-in and training starts. eekkkkkkkkckckck)

these are pretty fun and easy in case you are also bored and in a crafty set of mind:

nani birds

seedballz!

and occasionally i get thirsty

and then its back to work
all the stuff i am bringing to ny!

well all is in a busy day =)
my friends think i have nothing better to do. but whats better than enjoying life in the good ol sun making nani birds.

wedding wednesday . 1

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

so today i want to blog about my FAVORITE topic ever in the world that i would like to hide from every boy so i don't scare them away!!!! --- weddings!!!!! <3333

so topic of today? not sure because im just starting this. i think every so often im going to make a board of things i really like based on emotion/colors/objects/etc. so recently ive been going back and forth on what makes a perfect wedding and it yes it really is the love between two people and having it express both their personalities--but that can be quite confusing to someone who 1. isn't engaged, 2. far from engaged, 3. not even in a relationship so pretty much when im looking at wedding objects...i think about MEMEMEMEMEME! puwahaha. lets keep it that way for a little while.

my opinion changes between formal and informal but some details always seem to pop out as exquisite. i know though...i will think about every single detail ever in every single wedding that i do.

since i have to go sleep early..im going to end this thing early. because im a little tired. i will expnd on this entry tomorrow! what i love right now: super 8mm film for a wedding video =)

empty canvas now dotted.

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

so this past weekend i went to my apartment with la mere to wait for the furniture to come. of course when they mean, its coming between 9am-1pm...they really mean 8am in the morning. which is when they ...came. anyways. so my beautiful furniture is here and the arrangements that i thought about were thrown out of the window because the movers thought it would look better with this layout:

windows
door

and so i kept it that way because theres all these obstacles to go through like the windows. the dresser having to pull out, etc.

we also brought the bedspreads and what not but i forgot a camera and a computer (which wasn't allowed to come) was unavailable. SO! this is the best pic you'll get for this week.

still things to do:
1. a rug for the desk
2. dining table
3. planter for the kitchen
4. coffee table

day something?

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

day . something?!?!?!

so after many days, i have gotten the courage to get the table from the dining room and paint it.

step 1. sand with fine grit sandpaper

step 2. prime!

step 3. paint!

i chose a sorta robin eggs blue from sears. they had an okay selection. they said they could scan material to match a color but i had only a printed sample which is a mix of white and blue pixels so it wasn't able to register.

and its one step for man!

jacky has taken care of the tv and the tv stand excellently. we will be looking for common room items very soon =)

i will also display pictures of my new room very soon x2

btw. posts will be scant as i am in NOVA SCOTIA! soon to be charlottetown!

furniture . oh nos . day ...2

Sunday, June 29, 2008

day . 2

so i call this day 2 because yesterday was when i went to ikea. started my furniture shopping and really thinking about how i wanted everything...marking things down, noting ideas that reflected images i brought together. discussing with my mom, etc. usually i LOVE ikea because its peaceful and fun to look at setups but i was super lucky when radio disney was there with like 100 LOUD children and their accompanying mothers who are just as loud as they are. it was funny

anyways, furniture for a 22 year old usually entails: ikea ikea ikea ikea. and possibly (if you're lucky and come from a long line of blessed people) inherited furniture..i am not one of them.

my type of inherited furniture tends to be from the 1970s era when vinyl, browns, olive green reigned hell on all. however i have been able to find a few pieces here and there in the house (my mom's house) that i can use for myself. now as a beginner/semi (i don't know how you can categorize yourself...me - 1, martha stewart - 10), i am having MANY frustrations about "matching furniture" or at least everything looking like it flows together...and not like a jail cell...which is pretty much the style my mom tells me to go with (be simple, bring your old bed...that you had since you were 2). i am also very overwhelmed because this is pretty much the first time where i have some money at hand for big priced items. so how have i coped with all of this?

1. i found what has been most helpful and that I find most helpful from many great bloggers (decor8, marthastewart.com, etc) is to put at least SOME work into it.
2. be 3-d as much as possible. i have been cutting out pictures, pasting pictures onto papers to see what goes together, circling deals, photoshopping, finding software where i can draw out and measure where everything can go in my 1x1ft cell block (i live in the city, what do you expect)
3. get inspiration! gathering pictures to inspire myself has been a big help. i sometimes felt that i was copying the style or the whole room which would take away from my own uniqueness and creativity but with luck have it...i can't afford half the shit they post so i am forced to improvise and most people seem to because they can't find that exact item or they just forget what they saw because they didn't bring the papers to the store....which defines my experience
4. get what you really need. rooms don't take one day to put together...so with me being in the city..im going to have a lot of fun seeing items i like and trying to see if it'll go into my room well over time.
5. paint! don't have matching furniture? paint it. whites tend to make the room look bigger.

i have taken this duvet cover from ikea as a main point to work off from. i am very bad at narrowing down choices because i like so much stuff so i had to force myself to pick at least one main thing to work from...to make the whole room. or else i would sit alone in my room circling ideas forever. i also read that choosing three colors to stick with is also helpful...so say black furniture/red occasional pieces with blue and black/navy blue etc. so this starts off the room: YELLOW! (blue/pink/white is the main look...but won't be so circusy).

edit!

anna ly has succumbed to the woes of non-ikea furniture. i bought my desk from raymour and flanigan (charlotte writing desk) and a lauren chest which brought together the old with the new (random ikea stuff)

furniture . oh nos . day ...i forget

day . i forget

hi all! mainly xiao and myself for now because not many know about this blog..... so i am moving into my new place very soon in nyc! i am very excited because it will be a turning point in my life. and so what oh so good subject should i start this blog off with? FURNITURE!!!! so this entry and several entries that follow will be a journey through my apartment decorating (well the beginnings of it...).

and this is such an exciting subject for the blog because it allows me to go back in time ...i.e. several months ago when i was a LOT more fluent in design history of furniture...from baroque to post modernism. to help me out, i grudgingly went through about 300 bajillion boxes of crap that i had from college to find my precious books such as:

images courtesy of facebook . amazon

the above books are fantastic reads if you want to polish your vocabulary up and impress your colleagues at the water cooler (because they really want to hear about it)

so here starts my JOURNEYYYYYYYYY! woot

the beginning

Sunday, January 20, 2008

so i always had an obsession with arts and crafts beyond the level of martha stewart. possibly anne of green gables had she been more british than canadian type of level.

today, while i should be writing an essay...i begin the epic. the journey of anna...beyond nj. maybe this will turn into that book that seinfield's wife wrote but possibly plagirized from that other woman. hiding veggies into your little kiddies food.

so the scope of this blog? just stuff that strikes me. dealing with arts, crafts, design, cooking...they should call this some type of realm because it really does seem to all fall into the same place...or the same people tend to look at the same group of things but theres no one word to sum it all up. maybe urban outfitters + martha stewart if they mated type thing.
